Abigail

Abigail

'Children can be such monsters'

We saw the new vampire movie,
'Abigail' a couple of weeks back but forgot to do a review. But I finally got a bit of time to air my thoughts on yet another vampire flick!

To start things off, I'll just say I loved this film! Imagine if someone took all the best parts of Ready or Not and mixed them with a dash of Wednesday Addams and a whole lot of blood. Definitely a breath of fresh air given the state of the Hollywood regurgitation mill of cut, copy, repeat SFX reliant films.

The film itself is how Vamp films should be. There's no brooding guys with sparkly skin or cheesy love stories here. Abigail is a pint-sized shitbag who will steal your heart (and maybe your jugular). Alisha Weir absolutely kills it as Abigail, and she's got a wicked sense of humor too..

The humor in this movie is dark, twisted, and surprisingly clever. There's a great comedic horror balance and the on-set chemistry between the cast comes through. The character introductions may seem a bit 'tropey' but it works.
As the film progresses you'll be chopping and changing over what character you love and/or hate. The gore is over-the-top in the best way possible,
and the whole vampire mythology they've cooked up is genuinely original.

But what really surprised me was how heartwarming the story is. Yeah, there's blood and guts galore, but underneath it all, it's a story about family, acceptance, and finding your people. Even if you're not a huge horror fan, you'll find yourself rooting for Abigail and her weird little crew.

I'm not going to lie, Abigail is one of the best vampire movies I've seen in a long time. It's scary, funny, and surprisingly touching. If you're looking for a movie that will make you laugh, scream, and maybe even shed a tear, then you need to see Abigail. Just don't invite her to your kids next sleepover..........
