The phenom of A24

A24 Films

It may come as no surprise, but us weirdos here at GBT love a bit of horror.
From Universal classics to modern day tripe. We constantly try to get our horror fix. Although there are always plenty of horror film out there, from some sub-par indie flick (which we probably shot ourselves) to some quite cinematic blood fests (Pearl),  there is one production company that stands out today, quite the way Hammer Horror did back in the days of olde', and that is A24.

vvitchNow we know A24 don't just do horror but lets face it, when they do, they really do. From the psychological headfuck of 'Midsummer' through to the folk tale of 'The VVitch', A24 seem to known what they are doing within this genre.
Lets take a look as to why A24 films just work.

Why A24 Films Are So Great

A24 is an independent film production / distribution company that has been responsible for some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful horror films of the past decade. Their films are known for their originality, intelligence, and visual style.

So in true film geekery style, lets first start with a break down in that old classic western format:

  • The Good

    • A24 has released some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful horror films of the past decade.
Their films are known for their originality, intelligence, and visual style.

    • A24 films are not afraid to tackle complex themes and ideas.
They often explore the dark side of human nature, but they do so in a way that is thought-provoking and challenging.

    • A24 films have a unique visual style.
They often use striking cinematography, artful set design, and innovative special effects to create a truly immersive experience for the viewer.

    The Bad

    • If A24 becomes too dominant in the genre, it could stifle creativity and innovation.
Other independent horror filmmakers may find it difficult to get their films made if A24 is already releasing all of the best horror films.

    • A24's success could lead to a lack of diversity in the horror genre.
If A24 is the only company releasing high-quality horror films, it could mean that other voices are not being heard.

    The Ugly

    • A24 could become too corporate and lose its edge.
If A24 becomes too successful, they may be tempted to play it safe and release more mainstream horror films. This could mean that they lose the originality and creativity that has made them so successful in the past.

The Future of Horror

A24 has had a major impact on the horror genre in recent years. They have helped to revitalize the genre and make it more popular than ever before. Their films have also inspired a new generation of horror filmmakers.

It is likely that A24 will continue to be a major force in the horror genre for years to come. However, there is a potential downside to their success. As pointed out above, If A24 becomes too dominant in the genre, it could stifle creativity and innovation. Other independent horror filmmakers may find it difficult to get their films made if A24 is already releasing all of the best horror films.

Talk to me filmThis is not to say that A24 is a bad company. They have done a great job of releasing high-quality horror films. However, it is important for the horror genre to remain diverse and inclusive. A24 has done a great job of releasing films that appeal to a wide range of viewers, but it is important for other voices to be heard as well. The future of horror depends on it.

One way to prevent A24 from having a monopoly on the genre is to support other independent horror filmmakers. There are many talented filmmakers out there who are making great horror films, but they may not have the same resources as A24. By supporting these filmmakers, we can help to ensure that the horror genre remains diverse and innovative.

We can also support independent horror filmmakers by watching their films. (even ours maybe?) If we want to see more great horror films, we need to show that there is an audience for them. By watching independent horror films, we can send a message to studios that there is a demand for this type of content.

The future of horror is bright. There are many talented filmmakers out there who are making great horror films. However, it is important to support these filmmakers and to ensure that the genre remains diverse and innovative. By doing so, we can help to ensure that the horror genre continues to thrive for years to come.
